A House Seller’s Hell
This is the story of the ordeal I (and my new wife) went through to sell my house in Everett, WA.
It all started in the late summer of 1996. We had been married on July 20 and spent the following week on the Washington coast before returning to Everett for 2 grueling weeks of preparation to go on the market. These were mostly 10-12 hour days of destroying, building, painting, hauling away garbage and all the other fun aspects of fixing up the 1 bedroom house for sale. Fortunately my parents were there through much of this to help with all this. My dad made at least a dozen trips to the local Eagle Hardware store to get things I needed. Mom also did a lot of the cooking, else we would not have eaten much I expect. Tracy also had fun helping, though she was not all that comfortable with a lot of what we had to do.
Finally, on August 15th we had an agent from Windermere Real Estate come by and list the house. We started out asking $85,000 to see what happened. Of course, that was not successful. We finally got the rest of my stuff loaded in the car and headed down to Vancouver, WA to live on August 21. I will now list the chain of events chronologically as they occurred. It would seem the worst had not really been put behind us as we had hoped!
